Maurice Berger, a pharmacy technician, created the Lampe Berger in 1898 as an air purifier. Fast forward to the present day and it’s now a fully-fledged home accessory. Let’s go behind the scenes of the company based in Grand-Bourgtheroulde, in Eure, since 1975.
Maison Berger Paris, history
It all began in 1898 after a wave of epidemics: Maurice Berger, a pharmacy technician, designed an air purification system. A “hygienic mist diffuser” which would go onto be called the Lampe Berger.
It was originally designed for hospitals and morgues, but it soon found its way into our homes to purify the air and remove unpleasant odours.
The Lampe Berger has 3 key features that make the product and company what it is today. First and foremost, it purifies the air with fragrance. Then there's its design and its layered fragrances.

The bottle became a fully-fledged home accessory in the 1920s. The company has worked with famous brands and designers including Lalique, Baccarat, Gallé, Chantal Thomass, Lolita Lempicka and Philippe Starck.
Maison Berger Paris, museum
Maison Berger Paris wanted to celebrate its outstanding heritage by opening a museum exhibiting 150 models out of 3000 items in the Conservatoire.

It’s an age-old craft, particularly the catalytic burner, which we keep alive from one generation and one employee to the next, with teams that know what they’re doing and have done for a long time.
